About

The Municipal Park from Galaţi county was created between 1888-1890 and was designed using the English pattern in 1913 as result of artistic concerns and insistences of the lawyer Ion I, Vasiliu.

Here, on the 16th of October 1911 was unveiled the first statue from Romania of the poet Mihai Eminescu. The moment of the unveiling was of a great importance, and the inauguration act was signed by important cultural figures, like: Nicolae Iorga, Mihail Sadoveanu, Emil Gârleanu, Ion Minulescu.

The bust of the national poet is seated on a white marble block and on the side of which there is another sculpture, a well contoured high relief that synthesizes the Eminescian genius. It depicts a female body holding a torch in its hand.

Mihai Eminescu's connection with the city of Galaţi is a close one, the poet staying here several times in the last part of his life.
