About
Manorial house, that later - in 1939 -became a museum, precisely because it belonged to the Cuza family and because it was inhabited by the Chief Magistrate of Galati, the future Lord of the Little Union in 1859.

Architectural objective
The oldest medieval church in Galati, subjected to many human hazards, but preserving the first form in which it rose on the spur of the hill since the eighteenth century. Being dependent of the Metropolitan Church of Proilavia, the edifice captures the dual utility (ecclesiastical and military) and the ingenious way in which the brick and stone, originating from the Roman Barbosi camp, blends in a synthesis of glorious history and Christian spirituality.

Located in a generous space, Garboavele Forest, The Village Museum - traditional household restores the type of rustic house specific for our area.
The Museum includes three households from Galati area, Corod, Mastacani and Cavadinesti localities, and a traditional household from Cahul District, Republic of Moldova.
The architecture of the houses from Galati area corresponds to the 19th century, while Cahul household is specific for the 20th century.
One can notice the house with hiding place as well as additions to the houses such as: "chimnita", "samaluc", "saia", shelter for the grinder, all offering a complex image not only of the traditional dwellings in the region but also of the social, historical and cultural context in wich they appeared.

The building situated in an ensemble including the statue of ruler Alexandru loan Cuza and the Public Garde is now a museum that impresses with the sober elegance of the building and the religious relics present in the exhibition halls. As an episcopal cathedral, the palace was inaugurated in the presenceof the royal family and the governors of the time.

The Visual Arts Museum form Galați is the first museum of contemporary art from Romania and was opened in 1967.
The works made between 1967-2012 are the most important part of heritage and permanent exhibitions of the museum. Famous personalities of contemporary Romanian painting and sculpture, represented by creations of recognized national and international value, are present on the museum's walls: Horia Bernea, Ion Salisteanu, Ion Alin Gheorghiu, Marin Gherasim, Teodor Moraru, Octav Grigorescu, Georgeta Naparus, Paula Ribariu, Stefan Caltia, Gheorghe Anghel, Ion Irimescu, Vida Geza, George Apostu, Ovidiu Maitec, Napoleon Tiron.
The museum has a dynamic structure by organizing exhibitions, micro-exhibitions, various events with audience (concerts, debates, art exhibitions, art history lessons, movie projections, etc.), symposiums, creation camps and other programs that promote the most significant orientations from the Romanian contemporary art in the country and abroad.
